Dealing with an Autoimmune Flare-Up
When symptoms re-emerge and my ck level (creatine kinase) gets worse, I know I’m experiencing an autoimmune flare-up. The first thought I have is to set my mindset towards taking pro-active actions to mitigate and lower inflammation. Although there are many physical things I can do, such as diet changes and lifestyle changes, I need to focus on mentally gearing up to take actions based on what is within my control. I find the words to keep myself going. I don’t want pity. I don’t want to feel sorry for myself. I just want to focus on pushing myself forward towards optimal health. Most importantly, I need the words of hope to sustain my motivation and to keep my focus keen on solutions for my own recovery and to drive my own story.
As I ponder my own situation, I found myself writing this poem to find my empowering mindset and to keep falling forward and to keep moving forward. The words we mentally tell ourselves really matter in terms of how the mental affects the physical.
POEM:
“Perseverance”
By Masato
May my inner spirit keep my passionate energy
May the healing powers sustain my life energy
Let me be enlightened to do what I can
Let me do the ordinary things in life
Yes, I know I can
Yes, I know this is my struggle and my life
Never give up
No matter what, look up
Never doubt my possibilities
No matter what, I will overcome my impossibilities
